ROA researcher Barbara Belfi awarded research grant together with colleagues from FPN and UHasselt to study language and reading development in young children

Maastricht University and Hasselt University have been awarded a joint four-year PhD grant by the Flemish Special Research Fund (Bijzonder Onderzoeksfonds, BOF). The research project focuses on the development of language and reading skills in young children. Its aim is to develop tools to identify children who need additional support at an early stage, helping to improve their educational opportunities.

Barbara Belfi, Senior Researcher at the ROA at Maastricht University’s School of Business and Economics (SBE), is involved in the project. She is collaborating with Milene Bonte, Professor, and Melis Çetinçelik, Assistant Professor, both at Maastricht University’s Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN), and Mieke Goos, Assistant Professor at Hasselt University.

Colin van der Ende has been appointed as the PhD candidate who will carry out the research. The project brings together expertise in cognitive neuroscience, developmental psychology and educational sciences.
