Nico Pestel is an Associate Professor at the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA) at Maastricht University. He obtained his PhD in economics from the University of Cologne in 2013. Before joining ROA in November 2021, he held various positions at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) in Bonn/Germany. He is affiliated to IZA as a Research Fellow and co-coordinates IZA’s network program area “Environment, Health, and Labor Markets”. Nico’s research interests are in applied labor, environmental and public economics as well as in political economy. He is particularly interested in the role of environmental conditions for labor market outcomes, human capital formation as well as decision-making.
